The GPS back up battery depends on which version of our kit you are using.
  • If you are using the iDen based Motorolla i415 unit, then the GPS backup battery is the actual battery in the device. When everything is operating normally, that battery should be fully charged around 99%. Now if you are seeing anything less, something is going on with your car 12V battery, or the power connection to your Tracking kit if faulty (Check the power/charging cable from the MFC unit to the i415, it might be loose/disconnected). If that battery is 0%, you might need to power up the phone again, even if you've reconnected the power cable
  • If you are using our GSM based kit that uses the Ericsson device series, the backup battery will always be 99% as we do not currently report battery power status. Be sure to check the Ericsson device after any major car work/overhaul that requires disconnecting of the car battery. The device will usually last another 24-48 hours even after disconnection of the car's 12v main battery.
  • If you are using our new GSM All in one Standalone kit (that can measure actual 12v car battery status, as well as its backup battery). The displayed power on the site represents the actual car 12v battery status. The device will continously report this status even when the car battery is dead/disconnected. It does this because it operates on its own back up battery. The backup battery can last as long as 24hrs - 2 weeks, depending on the type of backup battery purchased with your plan as well as the type of requests you are commanding the device to do. If you request the device to give you GPS tracking information, the device will operate at full power(which will cause the battery to die quicker). During an event of an emergency such as stolen vehicle e.t.c, minimize the usage of the GPS request function.

In the event of vehicle theft. The perpetrators usually try to disconnect the battery for a while. We recommend you purchase a good backup battery kit from our recommendation list.
Also if you are in a situation whereby the car is sitting without use for a while, e.g garaged car, on travel e.t.c You should consider setting up a calender event to start up the car every 4 days or so and warm the car up for about 10mins to keep the battery recharged.
